  • Birth: Jun. 29, 1926 Kerrobert Saskatchewan, Canada Death: Oct. 31, 2012 Three Hills Alberta, Canada Lorne Campbell Minchin of Acme passed away peacefully at Three Hills Hospital on October 31, 2012, two weeks after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Lorne was born in Kerrobert, SK on June 29, 1926 and was raised on the family's homestead near Major, SK. As a young man, he moved to Squamish, BC where he worked for the then Pacific Great Eastern Railway as a heavy equipment operator. In 1951, Lorne met the love of his life, Sheila Sinnamon, a school teacher in Lillooet, BC. They were married in Victoria, BC on August 25, 1953, and recently celebrated 59 years of marriage. January 1954 saw the newlyweds move to Ralph Brown's farm east of Acme, where Lorne worked as a hired hand. In September 1958, they moved into Acme and Lorne began working for the veterinarian, Dr. Jack Greenway, as an Artificial Insemination technician. He bought the business in 1964 and continued operating it until he retired in 1993. Lorne also drove a school bus for 32 years, retiring in 1991. Since moving to the Acme district, Lorne was an active member of St. John the Divine Anglican Church. He served as Cub Master with the Acme Cubs and Scouts from 1959 to 1970 and as Highway 21 District Commissioner from 1988 to 1995. In 1963, he was initiated into Acme Masonic Lodge #60. He was very active in the lodge and served as secretary for many years. In 1988, Lorne joined Strathmore #21 Royal Arch Masons and held office many times. With retirement came a new social activity for Lorne and Sheila. They purchased a trailer and joined the Calgary Rocky Mountain Good Sam chapter in 1999 where they gained another circle of friends. In 2003, Lorne was honoured with the Acme Volunteer Achievement Award from the Village of Acme and Community. Lorne will be greatly missed by his wife Sheila, and their children Kathy (Paul), Don (Valerie), Diane (Greg), Murray (Laurie) and Gloria (Mike), twelve grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, Lorne is survived by his sisters Pat, Ruth, and Shirley, and brothers Bill, Bruce, and Earl.
