They sent him into exile to Thuringia. He returned after eight years bringing with him Basina whom he had stolen from her royal Thuringian husband Bisinus abt 462/3. Throughout his kingship, he fought many battles and was responsible for solidifying and expanding the Frankish kingdom. He was active militarily from the mouth of the Loire to the borders of the Alamans. He along with the Romans defeated the Visigoths in a battle fought in 463. which took place in or near Orleans. He was given the administration of Belgica Secunda by the Romans. Reims, Tournai and Soissons were within his control. He also defeated the Saxons on the Loire. At his death the kingdom went to his son Chlodevech I (Clovis I). He was buried in Tournai. His grave was discovered in 1653. NOTE: Tournai and Doornick are the same place.
