In 500, Clovis I, King of the Franks, defeated him with the help of Godigisel. This battle was followed by more between the two brothers. Gundobad, after killing Godigisel while in an Arian church, then assumed both an alliance with the Franks and sole leadership of Burgundy. He died in 516 at peace with the four Frankish kings, and was succeeded by his son Sigismund. IDENTITY: A Roman General Gundobad was 56 at time of his death. He Suceeded Ricimer in 472- but stepped down a year later. Ricimer was Gothic General ruling the Western Roman empire. Gundobad murdered his three brothers and his sister in law Caretene wife of Chilperic II, to gain control of land left by their father after he passed away. He had two children: Gundomer II (1V) King of the Burgundians- brn. 475 Burgundy, France. Sigismund "the Holy" King of Burgundians, born 490 in Royaume de Bourgogne (within present France).
